I Don't Watch American Idol

I Don’t Watch American Idol

That’s right you read it correctly…I don’t watch American Idol. While I do realize it is a vehicle to find new talent, I don’t care for the format, the judges (seriously, who in their right mind thinks Paula Abdul is a good judge of talent?), the public manipulation…oh I could go on and on and I just might. No, just kidding…hey this is my blog, I can say what I want…right?!!

So, you ask (surely you are asking, right), how is this a blog about Clay Aiken? He was discovered on AI. How did you discover Clay? Duress!! Through some powers of divine intervention perhaps, a cousin “forced” me to watch Season 2 of AI. I had never watched the show before…at.all. Then, there he was…and there it was…that voice. I couldn’t believe it…wow, what a voice. Wow, what a geeky guy. Wow, he’s really cute. (I always liked guys in glasses).

Then it happened. The night there was no turning back. The night Clay sang “To Love Somebody”. I was mesmerized, I was transfixed, I was transported…I think I died. What a performance…great voice, polish, charisma, the total package.

That moment in time...

I’ve got lots more to talk about. Like my other musical tastes. My family’s music store and all the music I grew up listening to. Or the night I woke up out of the blue and just knew Clay was on tv on the Oprah repeat. Some in my family think I am obsessed. My cousin…she blames herself. Maybe I am obsessed, but I’m happier enjoying my obsession…so deal with it!

I can tell I'm going to love this blog. Just a feeling...kinda like your Oprah premonition.

Hope some of your family makes guest appearances here. *g*

Love the picture!!! No, correct that, I love both pictures. Like you, I don't watch American Idol. Why bother? Clay's already been found. The rest of them....well....maybe I'll find them someday if and when they "make it".

Then it happened. The night there was no turning back. The night Clay sang “To Love Somebody”.

Oh, I think I remember that night...vaguely. ;)

Ooo, you're family has a music store? Cool. Looking forward to more of your blog entries!

Wonderful blog. My husband managed a few music stores in SF and Atlanta in his younger days. Looking forward to more stories. And those are some mighty pretty pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Great blog! However, unlike you, I can't not watch American Idol. Baaaah Baaaaah. Yup, I'm a sheep.

Amen to all of it!!
First of all, not watching AI . . . how CAN people think all 3 of the judges are good at it?? It's beyond me.
Next, To Love Somebody. WOW. That is by far one of my favorite Clay performances too. He nailed it - and won the hearts of many that night.
And last, this "obsession". It just may be one, but hey - at least you're happy and enjoying yourself, right?? And others DO just have to deal with it!!

Great blog, I better go read some more of your entries!
